Matt Murray makes his Maple Leafs return
The former Stanley Cup champion is back in the NHL after 627 days.
According to a report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to recall goaltender Matt Murray from the AHL's Toronto Marlies and start him tomorrow against the Buffalo Sabres.
From Friedman:
It's been 627 days since Murray last started an NHL game in April, 2023. The two time Stanley Cup champion has been absolutely on fire with the Marlies so far this season, posting a 1.85 goals against average and a .931 save percentage in eight games.
With Leafs starter Anthony Stolarz out of the lineup for the next 4-6 weeks, it looks like the team will turn to Joseph Woll and Murray to share the crease... at least for now.
You have to imagine that the Leafs will have Murray on a short leash and they won't hesitate to Dennis Hildeby from the Marlies should Murray falter.
Stay tuned for Murray's 3rd... er... 4th (?) NHL reboot.
