Despite reports that Marc-Andre Fleury has reportedly decided to stay in Chicago, refusing to uproot his family again in a trade, there is a sense that the beloved goalie could move at the deadline, with signs pointing at him landing in Canada.

Fleury has stated that he’s hesitant to be traded again due to family reasons (which is understandable given the fact that he doesn’t want to have to move his family for the second time in less than a year), he is on the record as saying he wants at least one more shot at the Stanley Cup. And the Toronto Maple Leafs keep popping up in his thought process.

Last week, insider Frank Seravalli mentioned that the Leafs were still in the chase to acquire Fleury ahead of Monday’s deadline. Now, ESPN’s Emily Kaplan is getting the same feeling saying he’d be willing to go to a team that he feels has a legitimate chance to win a Cup.

Earlier this year, it was reported that theOilers were working at getting Flower on their roster, though the net minder was not interested in going to Edmonton, fearing they weren’t that strong of a contender and now the Oilers have backed down in their quest to acquire him. The Maple Leafs however are said to be looking at upgrading on all three positions, though that was a report made before rookie Erik Källgren got his first victory, a shutout agains the Dallas Stars, in his first NHL start. He made 35 saves. He will make a third start on Saturday against the Nashville Predators. The clock is ticking to make a decision on him, Jack Campbell (who remains on the sideline) and Petr Mrazek.

Fleury has a 10-team no-trade clause, but if he does request a trade, the Blackhawks won’t send him somewhere he doesn’t want to go. Who knows if he would reconsider for Toronto?

The Hawks could probably get a first-round pick in return for Flower replace the one they lost in the Seth Jones deal, however, we can understand why they prefer to respect Fleury’s wishes to stay in Chicago thanks to a promising pool of young prospects.
