Maple Leafs star players don’t care if they get boo’ed at home
Their comments are to the point and now trending… Full details below:
After losing 4-1 at the hands of the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs were boo’ed off the ice for the second straight game at Scotiabank Arena.
They practiced on Wednesday and afterwards, some of the star players were asked about the fans and their boos raining down after the club. While forward Mitch Marner acknowledged that he hears the noise, he simply chooses to ignore it and focus on the work that needs to be done.
“Just try to ignore it,” Marner said when asked about the boos. “We’re just trying to do our job out there and go out and put together a full 60. And, you know, we got a good practice today, a good video session. We’ve got to get to work tomorrow.”
William Nylander was unfazed and went on to say:
“It doesn’t really matter if they boo. I mean, we know we’re a good team, so, yeah.”
Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson showed a little more understanding with his comments to TSN’s Mark Masters, saying:
“It’s frustrating losing so I think we feel the same way."
Toronto now needs to find a way out of their losing streak as they face the New Jersey Devils tomorrow night at home. Where there is a chance the team gets boo’ed off again.
However, head coach Craig Berube believes it happens in every NHL rink.
“It’s everywhere. They do it in every rink, don’t they? I mean, it’s part of the game,” Berube said post-game on Tuesday, referencing the boos. “They pay good money, and they come to see hockey, and they want to see us win. So, that’s, you know, that’s the way it goes.”
The fans are being somewhat intense since the Maple Leafs are still sitting first in the Atlantic Division with 56 points.
Let’s see what happens tomorrow night after the Devils and former head coach Sheldon Keefe and if more boos are heard during or after the game.
