Maple Leafs share terrible update on Calle Jarnkrok.
The Toronto Maple Leafs shared some very bad news regarding the health of injured forward Calle Jarnkrok.
This one is a tough blow to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it now sounds like it will be a blow they will have to deal with for a significant portion of the regular season.
On Monday morning, the Maple Leafs officially announced that forward Calle Jarnkrok would be going under the knife for surgery, a surgery that looks to repair damage to his body in the form of both a sports hernia as well as a groin injury. It sounds like this was a pretty significant procedure, especially given the timeline for Jarnkrok's recovery.
According to the official announcement, Jarnkrok is going to be out for an extended period of time as he is currently listed as month to month when it comes to his recovery. There's no telling right now how long that could keep him out of the lineup, but we do know for certain that he won't be back before the end of the year.
Jarnkrok has yet to play for the Maple Leafs this season after suffering the injury in October but it did appear as though he was initially on the road to recovery prior to this announcement. Jarnkrok had resumed skating on his own which was viewed as a positive sign, and it is unclear if that was just overly optimistic or if he has suffered some kind of setback.
Given the month to month timeline you do have to wonder if he will be able to play at all this season, which is a concern given that he has historically been one of the better performing players in the Maple Leafs bottom 6 forward group.
The Maple Leafs are already without the services of team captain Auston Matthews who has been sidelined with an injury for some time, with Matthews still not yet skating as a result of that injury, and will also be without forward Ryan Reaves who is now serving a 5 game suspension for a brutal hit on Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.
