Maple Leafs make official move on the blue line despite head coach Craig Berube’s doubts
The official signing was done on Friday, not sure how Berube will react:
On Friday morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenseman Philippe Myers to a two-year extension carrying an $850,000 AAV, per insider Chris Johnston.
The signing comes less than 24 hours after Leafs head coach Craig Berube said that if Myers needs to stay physical and to have good chemistry with partner Morgan Rielly in order to remain a fixture in the lineup for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“You know, he’s been simple and physical. When he gets the puck, he makes the simple play, and he’s been good around our net, boxing out and being physical in our D-zone. He needs to continue doing that and not complicate the game at all.”
While Berube might still need some proof that Myers can be the much-needed top fixture on the back end in Toronto, management has awarded him with the extension on Friday.
This will give the Maple Leafs some time ahead of the March 7 deadline to see what they have in players like Myers.
So far this season in 11 games, Myers has posted two assists and a +1 rating.
Let’s see if he can continue to impress Berube to keep his spot in the lineup.
