The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a minor roster move on Christmas Eve.
Unfortunately it is bad news for one member of the Maple Leafs roster as forward Pontus Holmberg will be headed back down to the minors, where he will be joining the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies.
Holmberg was originally called up earlier this month on the 16th of December after a number of Maple Leafs, including star forward Auston Matthews, were knocked out of the lineup with the flu. Holmberg did briefly slot into the lineup for the Leafs as a result of that illness, but it appears that it is another short stint at the National Hockey League level for Holberg who has just 8 NHL games and just 1 NHL point under his belt this season.
Holmberg is having a decent seaso nwith the Marlies with 6 goals and 4 assists for a total of 10 points over 11 AHL games this season, so perhaps he will eventually work his way back ti the NHL roster at some point down the line.
