Maple Leafs’ Kyle Dubas hides true intentions on trade market, could disappoint
New strategy?

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas isn’t fooling anyone: we all know he wants to make a move ahead of the trade deadline, seeing that after all, his job is on the line.
It is especially clear seeing that, at the moment, the Maple Leafs still aren’t build to win the first round of the postseason.
There is a hope from the fanbase in Toronto that Dubas will go all in before the deadline to maximize the Maple Leafs’ potential. And this means making available their first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and top prospect, 20-year-old forward Matthew Knies , for a trade or trades that will make them top contenders.
However, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports that Dubas is attempting to catch rival teams off guard. And might not be looking at star players like Patrick Kane, Ryan O’Reilly or Timo Meier after all…
“Toronto GM Kyle Dubas is doing his best to hide his intentions, but I believe he’s looking at a forward. The fourth line has been a mishmash, and whether he adds someone for that spot or aims higher and pushes down another forward to strengthen the overall group — he’s going to address it. That doesn’t mean he won’t consider adding to the blue line, but he’s deeper there than up front.”
I get that Dubas wants more stability up front and to add depth, but it sounds like a very little splash ahead of the trade deadline.
Is this report Dubas’ way to hide his true intentions before going at all on a blockbuster move?
Here’s hoping…
