Just like they drew it up at the start of the season, right?

All joking aside the Toronto Maple Leafs have been getting some pleasantly surprising play out of veteran goaltender Martin Jones, who began the season third on the team depth chart behind Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll. However, Samsonov's struggles have resulted in his having been waived, while Woll is now the de facto starter between the pipes.

In Woll's absence due to injury, Jones was summoned from the American Hockey League affiliate Toronto Marlies, and has posted a positive record of 6-3-0 with a 2.20 goals against average along with a pair of shutouts.

His most recent outing was a positive performance against the Anaheim Ducks, making 26 saves on 27 shots; though it was overshadowed by the superhuman performance of Anaheim net minder Lukas Dostal's career-high 55 saves.

The Leafs conclude their California road swing tomorrow night with a matchup against the struggling San Jose Sharks, who have lost 10 straight. And fittingly, it will be Jones facing his former team that he helped lead to the 2016 Stanley Cup Final.

Tomorrow's game against the Sharks at SAP Center is slated to begin earlier than normal for a west coast game, with the opening face-off set for 7:00 PM EST (4:00 PM EST San Jose time).
