Lies exposed in Jeremy Swayman’s contract situation!
With training camp just around the corner:
Recent reports claim that goalie Jeremy Swayman was seeking $10M AAV for his next contract as he continues to negotiate with the Boston Bruins. While the team maintains that a deal will get done before training camp in a couple weeks, insider Frank Seravalli has revealed some untruthful details about the situation in Boston.
Seravalli claims Swayman is asking for around $8 million AAV, while the Bruins are sitting around $6 million AAV. There remains a gap, but for those hearing that the goalie was seeking a $10M AAV, it is not as big as feared.
After relinquishing his arbitration rights this summer, Swayman is an unsigned restricted free agent who especially wanted to avoid the arbitration process after he did so last offseason.
The Bruins have $8.64 million in cap space and want to find middle ground soon with Swayman, who remains the team’s only RFA with training camps around the corner.
Last week, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery claimed that he is not worried when he asked about developments on Swayman’s contract.
After trading Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators earlier this summer, the Bruins look to Swayman to lead the way in Boston with a bigger workload. Last year, he recorded a .916 save percentage in 44 games and ranked fifth in the NHL in goals saved above expected.
Swayman needs to be the starting goaltender for the Bruins, but that means a contract needs to be agreed upon and signed in time.
