Pulitizer Prize nominated journalist Russ Conway has passed away at just 70 years of age. Conway was a long-time Boston Bruins beat reporter and is best known as the man who exposed and ultimately brought down corrupt NHLPA leader Alan Eagleson.
Conway published a series of articles that exposed Eagleson’s lucrative conflicts of interest as NHLPA boss, leading to investigations in both Canada and the United States. Ultimately Eagleson was found guilty of fraud and served six months in prison. He was also ordered to forfeit his Order of Canada.
The Hockey Hall of Fame removed Eagleson in 1999 and awarded Conway its Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award in 1999 for bringing honor to journalism and hockey.
