Leafs fans irate with controversial decision on Zach Whitecloud’s brutal hit to Matthew Knies!

Crowd in Toronto is furious. They have to be asking: Ryan Reaves got a 5-game suspension and Whitecoud doesn’t even get a major!? See the hit below:

In the second period of Wednesday night’s game in Toronto in which the Maple Leafs are hosting the Vegas Golden Knights, the crowd got to their feet with Fraser Minten’s first NHL career, but they also jumped up in frustration during the second period.

That’s because Golden Knights’ Zach Whitecloud blew Matthew Knies up along the wall, making contact with the Leafs young forward’s jaw.

While teammate Simon Benoit jumped Whitecloud in his defense, Knies got up wobbly and headed to the quiet room for the concussion protocol.

At first, Whitecloud was assessed a major penalty, that was reviewed. Benoit also in the box for going after Whitecloud, but it turned out that Vegas went on the power-play with Whitecloud only assessed a minor penalty.

The crowd in Toronto was irate, especially since they were getting more and more furious several replays of the hit are shown on the Jumbotron.

After the penalty was killed by the Maple Leafs, both teams got rowdy and everyone eventually found a dance partner with more penalties coming their way. However, if you ask me, there is one major penalty that did not get called right in this game.

It was later announced during the game that Knies would not return.

I mean I don’t get this one, but a lot of calls from the NHL are ridiculous now. It looked a lot like a headshot to me and I’m wondering how could the principal point of contact not be the head?

What’s your take on his hit and the controversial decision by the officials?
