Another year, another National Hockey League season officially in the books. For the first time since the consecutive years of 2018 and 2019, there is a first time Stanley Cup winner, as the Vegas Golden Knights joined the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues as having finally accomplished the ultimate glory.
Of course, Vegas didn't have to wait even a fraction of the time those two franchises had to in order to deliver a title, but that's the nature of professional sports.
There was one particular individual who was not happy to see Vegas lift the Stanley Cup, and that happens to be the father of the 2019 Conn Smythe Trophy winner with the Blues in Ryan O'Reilly.
In the words of Brian O'Reilly, the officiating was at a historic low during this year's postseason that saw his son help the Toronto Maple Leafs to their first playoff series victory since 2004.
Congratulations, Las Vegas!" O'Reilly raged. "Lost interest this year in the Stanley Cup. Bullying, violence, not enforcing the rules of the game left some players with career affecting injuries. It's the only sport where the rules change in playoffs. The Love of violence is our deterioration!"
O'Reilly continued:
"The weak lead by fear & intimidation, the strong lead with leadership, & appreciation with an indelible, will not to become a bully when bullied. Their character is to produce quality in the face of a bully that will increase the bullies respect for his opponent and themselves!"
"When teams resort 2 violence teammates often appreciate their bullies. This false sense of camaraderie, friendship! Soon after the event the bully is not needed they R left isolated, depressed withdrawn with mental health issues. This can causes a superiority character distortion!"
NHL referees sure took a beating during these recent playoffs, as the rules appeared to be adjusted seemingly game to game.
