The Toronto Maple Leafs lost forward Noel Acciari during the first period of tonight's game at Scotiabank Arena against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes after he was struck by Carolina's Jesse Puljujärvi in the head; he was clearly shaken up and made his way to the dressing room.
The Maple Leafs announced that he would not be returning as a "precautionary" measure, and head coach Sheldon Keefe has since provided further insight.
According to Keefe, Acciari will not be traveling with the team tonight to Ottawa for tomorrow night's game against the Senators.
"He was in the room and handed off the belt tonight to the Reeser," Keefe explained. "So, he seems like he’s doing alright, but clearly couldn’t come back in the game so that’s concerning."
"My view of it, obviously, is it should be a penalty," he continued. "It’s tough to lose a player like that on a play like that. The refs saw it differently."
The Maple Leafs take on the Senators from Canadian Tire Centre tomorrow night starting at 7:00 PM EST.
