Kris Knoblauch picks his goalie with the season on the line.

The Edmonton Oilers have their backs against the wall in Game 6, and Kris Knoblauch has a tough choice to make.

The Edmonton Oilers will have their season on the line later tonight when they face off against the Vancouver Canucks in Game 6 of their second round Stanley Cup playoff series, and Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch has what is likely one of the toughest choices of his coaching career to make for that pivotal game.

The Oilers have been unable to find consistent goaltending in this series with starting netminder Stuart Skinner struggling throughout these playoffs with a 3.22 goals against average and a .877 save percentage over the span of 8 games. Skinner's struggles have been so significant that the Oilers were forced to turn to backup goaltender Calvin Pickard, who admittedly has been better with a 2.21 goals against average and a .915 save percentage over his 3 playoff appearances this season.

After a tough loss in Game 5, Knoblauch now has to pick which goaltender he is going to ride with in Game 6 where his season will be on the line. It likely wasn't an easy choice for the Oilers head coach, but according to early reports it now sounds like Knoblauch will go back to Skinner in spite of his struggles so far in the playoffs.

Regardless of who he selected it was going to be a big gamble for Knoblauch,, which speaks to the problem the Oilers have had when it comes to their goaltending in these playoffs up to this point. The decision from Oilers management not to address the team's goaltending issues following the collapse of Oilers goaltender Jack Campbell this season could very well come back to haunt them.
