According to Emily Kaplan of ESPN who was first to report, the New York Rangers are acquiring Seattle Kraken’s Alex Wennberg. The deal was made official and see Wennberg moved to the Rangers, who are sending back a 2024 second round pick, and a 2025 fourth round pick. Half of Wennberg's salary is retained by Seattle.

The condition follows a previous trade : the conditional fourth round pick becomes a 2025 third-rounder if Nils Lundkvist gets to 55 points between this season and last. (he’s currently at 15 points through 45 games played).

The forward has been out of the lineup due to trade-related issues, missing Monday night’s match up against the Calgary Flames.

The 29-year-old is in the final season of a three-year, $13.5 million contract, carrying a cap hit of $4.5 million, and is due to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He is a member of the original Kraken expansion roster in the 2021-22 season. Wennberg has nine goals and 25 points in 60 games with the Kraken this season.

Wennberg has also been linked to the Colorado Avalanche though the Western contender has been busy on Wednesday, acquiring star Casey Mittelstadt from the Buffalo Sabres, along with defenseman Sean Walker from the Philadelphia Flyers.

There were reports that the Kraken looked into re-signing Wennberg but have since decided to move him. And it sounds like New York is the destination.

More to come.
