As you may have heard in the past few days, Philadelphia Flyers goaltender and prospect Ivan Fedotov was arrested by Russian authorities who allege that he evaded military service and illegally broke his contract with CSKA Moscow. He was then sent a remote military base in northern Russia. It prompted many insiders and players’ agent to worry about the safety of other Russian NHLers, and now the concerns has grown tremendously on Wednesday morning when it comes to Minnesota Wild star forward Kirill Kaprizov.

According to SHOT, a Russian Telegram channel, and Andrew Zadarnowski, Kaprizov is wanted in Russia for purchasing a fake military identification. There is reportedly an investigation into players buying fake military IDs from a person who was detained. And that person has allegedly named Kaprizov.

According to Eugene Kolychev, a former GM in the Ukrainian league, Kaprizov may be linked to the case of former police officer Farit Samigullin, who was arrested 20 April 2022 in Ufa. According to investigators, he helped Ufa football players and HC Salavat hockey players avoid the army for several years by preparing military tickets for them. Kaprizov played for that team in the 2016-17 season.

In the past few days, it was reported that Kaprizov had undergone minor surgery, which wouldn’t prevent him from attending the Wild’s training camp in September. Kaprizov had 47 goals and 61 assists in 81 games last season, his second as an NHL player.

UPDATE:

Very little details have been given on the current situation, however, Zadarnowski now reports that "upon hearing about the arrest of Ivan Fedotov, Kirill Kaprizov reportedly immediately returned to the United States."

"His name is linked to fraudulent military IDs being sold to players, including Fedotov, and Kaprizov is now wanted in Russia, per Sport-Express."

This will be one to keep a close eye on, no doubt!
