The Detroit Red Wings have not iced a full lineup at any point this season, given the fact that Tyler Bertuzzi has broken both of his hands, Jakub Vrana spent nearly two months in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, Filip Zadina suffered a broken bone in his leg, Robby Fabbri continues his rehabilitation from a torn ACL in March of last season, and plenty of additional ailments that have plagued the room.
However, the good news is that Vrana is on his way towards a return to the Detroit lineup, having already played in the first of a three-game conditioning stint with the American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins. Meanwhile, Bertuzzi could also be making his return along with Fabbri shortly after the start of the new calendar year.
And for fans who were wondering the status of Zadina, more good news came through today. According to Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now, Zadina could be back within a week's time.
“We’ll see how it comes (along),” Zadina said. “I just want to come back and be 100% ready. I don’t want to be 85% ready and then just be on the ice. I want to to be ready and can give the team 100%. That’s my goal. If I get there in a week, or 10 days, or two weeks, I’m trying my best to get there as soon as possible. I just want to come back and be ready 100 percent.”
“It’s a matter of the spot where I had the surgery, where I had the broken bone,” Zadina said. “The conditioning is fine. I’m already there. Obviously it’s tough. It’s probably not the same like I was in the summer. The biggest concern right now is the leg, where I had the injury.”
Zadina will certainly be looking to make an impact offensively upon his return, and so will fans. Prior to his injury, Zadina struggled to produce points, having not reached the scoresheet once in the nine games that he appeared in.
