The Edmonton Oilers signed forward Kailer Yamamoto to a two-year contract on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration. The deal comes with an AAV of $3.1 million.
The young forward was scheduled to have his arbitration hearing on Aug. 7.
Yamamoto was selected in the first round, 22nd overall, in the 2017 NHL entry Draft and put up 20 goals and 41 points in 81 games last season, and added another two goals and seven points in 14 playoff games. The 23-year-old is coming off a one-year extension following the expiration of his rookie contract, which earned him $1.175 million last season.
While he battled with inconsistency this past season, Yamamoto did improve tremendously under the new leadership of Jay Woodcroft in March when he came in to replace Dave Tippett as head coach.
He reached the 20-goal plateau for the first time this past season and with this new deal under his belt, we bet he is ready for more in the next years.
