Justin Holl takes a shot at the Maple Leafs

Not so subtle, eh?

The Justin Holl era with the Toronto Maple Leafs officially came to an end this weekend, as the unrestricted free agent defenseman decided to take his talents a short distance over the border and sign with the division and Original 6 rival Detroit Red Wings.

He was offered a three year contract with an AAV of $3.4 million by Detroit GM Steve Yzerman, which he quickly accepted. It brought o an end a period of time with the Leafs that, while positive at times, was also mired with more than a few examples of being caught out of position and also posting not the best plus-minus statistics.

Regardless, while the Red Wings are a historic Original 6 franchise with a far reaching media apparatus, there may be no other professional hockey media market quite like Toronto. And it sounds as though Holl gave a bit of a parting shot towards the Leafs media after his contract with Detroit was made official.

Well played, Justin! He's certainly aware of the criticisms of his game he experienced, and he'll be looking to hit back at his detractors by having productive and successful tenure with Detroit.
