And no, it’s not the Maple Leafs!

Pop star Justin Bieber is getting more and more involved in the NHL. Last week, it was revealed that Biebs designed the reversible Toronto Maple Leafs jersey and hung out in the dressing room after the team’s victory where he was seen hugging it out with close friend Auston Matthews.

The singer has attended games and events held by the NHL, but now it sounds like he wants more.

On Friday, insider Elliotte Friedman and host Jeff Marek talked about the ownership situation in Ottawa, as Senators owner Eugene Melnyk suddenly passed away earlier this week. While Commissioner Gary Bettman will hold discussions with Melnyk’s daughters, there have been rumours that team could move to Quebec City. The fact that it was announced that five Senators games will take place in QC in 2022-23 didn’t help the chatter, though Friedman maintains that the team will not moved.

However, Marek did reveal that Bieber has kicked tires on the idea of owning the Senators.

This would be fun to watch. Are we supposed to believe Bieber would be able to convince close friend Matthews to sign with in Ottawa once he becomes a free agent?

On Thursday, Friedman pointed out in his 32 Thoughts column: “I think Auston Matthews re-signs in Toronto — as long as he believes in the direction of the team.”

The contract comes to an end in 2025, so there’s plenty of time for Matthews to figure how good the future looks in Toronto, but we can understand why Friedman points to the young player considering all options when the deal is done.

The Maple Leafs will need to prove to Matthews that they can be a playoff contender. It’s been many rough years of postseason for Matthews, who was drafted first overall by the Leafs in 2016. The Maple Leafs keep coming up short in spectacular fashion in the postseason and we could understand why Matthews would have enough. There is definitely a feeling that a significant shakeup could happen this summer should things not work out yet again results in Toronto heading into the playoffs this year.

But the direction might also be the one taken in Ottawa? If Biebs gets into the mix (no pun intended), Matthews could be interested in joining his friends in the nation’s capital.

Could you imagine?
