Jordan Binnington out for the series.

Binnington will be out for a while.

The St. Louis Blues have been dealt a serious blow, although it is not entirely clear just how serious it is at this time.

Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington was injured in Game 3 of the Blues second round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Colorado Avalanche when both Blues defenseman Calle Rosen and Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri came crashing into his crease and his net. The hope was that the injury would not be serious and that Binnington would be able to quickly return to action, however we now know that is not the case.

Blues insider Jeremy Rutherford was the first to break the news that Binnington was likely to be out for "multiple weeks" something that now appears to have been confirmed.

On Sunday, the Blues officially confirmed that Binnington would be out for the remainder of the second round against the Colorado Avalanche. This is clearly a sign that Binnington's injury is one of a long term nature, although no one but the Blues and Binnington himself know just how long term at this time. Goaltender Charlie Lindgren has been called up in response to Binnington being sidelined.

Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly had this to say following Binnington's injury and the loss in Game 3:

"It's always tough. Binner is a heart and soul (player), playing unbelievable," said O'Reilly as per the Blues official website. "It took the momentum away... Things like that happen, we're a good team and we could have done a better job of getting momentum back."

While this is unfortunate for the Blues on a competitive level this has to be heartbreaking for Binnington on a personal level as well. The veteran netminder faltered this season posting a 3.13 goals against average and a .901 save percentage over 37 appearances and had seen a great many of his starts go to Blues goaltender Ville Husso who made 40 appearances this season for the Blues, 3 more than Binnington. Binnington though was having an incredible bounce back in the playoffs with a 1.72 goals against average and a .949 save percentage over 6 appearances, making him one of the most dominant goaltenders of these Stanley Cup playoffs overthat short stretch.

It would be a real shame if this is how it comes to an end.
