A bunch of fans might agree with Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella and his strong feelings towards the NHL’s All-Star weekend, but they might find other ways to share their sentiment.
Torts did not hold back when asked about the weekend when he let out:
“That whole weekend, I don’t even watch it.”
“I don’t give a shit.”
On Thursday, it was announced that Flyers forward Kevin Hayes was selected to be part of 2023 NHL All-Star roster. He earned the accolade for the first time in his career.
When he commented on his nomination, Hayes felt emotional when explaining how it what’s his brother Jimmy, who passed away in the summer of 2021, would have wanted for him.
“It’s a cool situation for me because, not to get emotional, it’s probably the only thing my brother, since he stopped playing hockey wanted me to accomplish. I never honestly thought it would happen. It did, and it’s cool.”
I am not saying that Torts blew off what the All-Star Game means to Hayes despite their strained relationship in Philadelphia. Earlier this season, Tortorella made the controversial choice to healthy scratch Hayes, who was the team’s leading scorer. The head coach made it clear however that he won’t let reports ruined his relationship with his top player.
“Yeah, I’m not giving you an update on Hayes’s game. You guys — I’m not going to have the Kevin Hayes update. You guys are trying to pit him against me and me against him, which is SO ludicrous. So I’m not giving you any update on Kevin Hayes.”
And so it sounds like Torts was just sharing his true feelings on the All-Star event. That isn’t surprising too, coming from him!
