John Tortorella confirms one of his players has quit the team!
Things get even worse for the Flyers.
It seems the Philadelphia Flyers will be without one of their veteran forwards for the remainder of the season.
In a stunning media availability on Saturday morning, Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella confirmed that forward Lukas Sedlak has requested that his contract be terminated in order to return home to his native Czech Republic. The motivations for this decision from Sedlak are currently unclear and he may still speak to the media later today, however what is clear is that his request has been granted and he will be leaving the Flyers effective immediately.
I don't want to speculate on the reasons for Sedlak's departure because for all we know there could be a very serious matter that has called him back home, afterall not many people willingly give up their NHL dream in the middle of a season. That being said this comes at the worst possible time for the Flyers organization, with the team having won just 10 of the 31 games they have played this season.
In spite of the fact that this decision will leave him in a tough spot, Tortorella showed great class during his media availability when he was questioned about Sedlak's decision to leave the team. The Flyers bench boss merely wished his now former player well, while adding that Sedlak was a good man.
Sedlak's decision comes after he had a solid performance for the Flyers this season, picking up 3 goals and 5 assists for a total of 8 points, and finishing with a plus minus rating of +3 after 27 games played in the regular season.
According to the Flyers' Bill Meltzer, it sounds like Sedlak may soon be playing for Pardubice in the Czech Extraliga, and I wish him well on all his future endeavors.
