John Tortorella benches one Flyers forward after playing just 56 seconds!
Brutal.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Joel Farabee played just 56 seconds in last night’s game against the New Jersey Devils and it’s not because he suffered an injury during the contest. It’s because head coach John Tortorella got pissed with him and benched him for the remainder of the game. Philadelphia ended up losing to New Jersey 4-3 in overtime.
Farabee was benched after his second shift when New Jersey scored the game-opening goal. Alexander Holtz streaked down the middle of the ice and beat Carter Hart top shelf.
It was cleared that Torts was upset with Farabee on the play as the young forward unsuccessfully pinched and failed to keep the puck in the offensive zone.
After the game, Tortorella said the benching was because Farabee “didn’t listen” and refused to go into specifics on what caused his player to be benched for so long.
“None of your business,” he said. “You know I’m not going to go there. You want me to keep answering questions here, don’t bring me into that spot.”
Farabee was not made available for comment after the game.
Classic Torts.
The thing is that has been one of the Flyers’ best forwards this season He has eight goals and 15 points in 23 games, ranking third in Philadelphia in scoring. He in the second season of a six-year, $30-million contract signed in September 2021.
He clearly has a pretty short leash with Tortorella, but I feel like Farabee will bounce back.
The Flyers are back in action their Pennsylvania rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, on Saturday night.
