Bruins coach Jim Montgomery defends his decision in net!

The Toronto Maple Leafs were able to even up their Round 1 series against the Boston Bruins last night at TD Garden, winning in comeback fashion thanks to a game-tying tally from John Tavares in the 2nd period followed by the game-winner from Auston Matthews. 

The Leafs also got a 1st period tally from Max Domi, and all goals were scored on Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark, who replaced Jeremy Swayman between the pipes after his Game 1 victory. 

Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery made the decision to start Ullmark over Swayman in Game 2, a decision that he's not backing down from after the setback. 

“No second guesses. (Ullmark) was terrific,” Montgomery said. “He made multiple big-time saves and it’s the strength of our team. Both of them played really well.”

Ullmark made 30 saves over the course of the evening, including several clutch stops that allowed his teammates a chance to secure the go-ahead, and later, the game-tying goal. Unfortunately for the Bruins, it wasn't meant to be in Game 2. 

“I’m very grateful every time I get the opportunity to go out there and play,” Ullmark said. “It’s the most fun time of the year. So, I don’t take anything for granted. I don’t see that anyone should have anymore starts than the other. It’s all about compete and performance and also it’s all about wins.”

“There’s some good and bad things, obviously. There’s some things I got to clean up as well,” Ullmark said. “I have to look at it, as I always say. … Maybe look at some tendencies. Maybe there were some things that were really good and kind of build off of that.”

Right now, it's not clear which goaltender will be between the pipes for the Bruins in Game 3 in Toronto tomorrow night at Scotiabank Arena.
