Jeremy Swayman reacts to getting the start in Game 1.

Game 1 was a big night for the Boston Bruins who largely dominated the Toronto Maple Leafs from start to finish, but perhaps no player had a bigger and better night than Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman.

For some time it has been clear that Swayman will be the Bruins' goaltender of the future but the spectre of Linus Ullmark, and the solid play of Ullmark between the pipe, has always resulted in the Bruins operating with a goaltending tandem since Swayman has joined the team in a full time role.

On Saturday night, Swayman was effectively given the reigns when he was named the starting goaltender for Game 1, a moment that should not be understated when it comes to its importance in Swayman's career.

"It's emotional," admitted Swayman. "It's everything you dream of growing up. It almost brought my tears coming out."

Although it was a huge moment for him personally, Swayman is playing for much more than just personal accolades on the ice. 

"It's bigger than just us," admitted Swayman. "It's the city,. it's the rivalry, original six and obviously our 100th year. I felt we did a good job representing the B's tonight."

When asked how he felt about getting the start in Game 1, Swayman's response showcased his confidence in himself.

"It's about time," said Swayman with a smile. "I was excited."

Despite that, Swayman made sure to pay a big compliment to his goaltending partner who had to sit on the sidelines in Game 1.

"I think we both know that Linus and I both can take the net at any time and help this team win."
