James Reimer isn't happy with Sharks GM Mike Grier

Prior to the major deal that ultimately did send him to the Big Apple, now-former Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane didn't shy away from expressing his disappointment in the fact that he hadn't been moved to the contending New York Rangers not long after they brought in Vladimir Tarasenko. However, Kane would in fact get his wish. 

The same can't be said for San Jose Sharks goaltender James Reimer, who continues to suit up for the basement dwelling squad that is firmly in the Connor Bedard sweepstakes. And while the veteran didn't list a specific team that he wished that he was moved to ahead of last week's National Hockey League trade deadline, he made no secret of the fact that he's disappointed that he wasn't dealt to a team with a chance to win it all later this year.

"Obviously the goal is to win a Cup and it’s been the goal since I was three years old," said Reimer. "So, it’s unfortunate it didn’t come to fruition. Obviously, that’s every guy’s dream in here."

Reimer likely knew what he was getting into when he signed a two year contract to return to the Sharks in the 2021 offseason, and it's not exactly unreasonable for him to have wanted a trade given the fact that he's currently playing on an expiring deal.

According to Sharks general manager Mike Grier, there was some effort on his end to facilitate a change of scenery for Reimer, but ultimately, nothing was able to materialize.

“I think it wasn’t the right opportunity for him or right places for him,” Grier explained while adding, “It’s always difficult to move goalies this time of year.”

Reimer has posted a record of 10-16-6 with a 3.27 goals against average along with a .895 save percentage in 2022-23.
