It was a feisty game between the Original 6 rivals Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins last night at TD Garden, a matchup that ultimately saw the Bruins prevail by a 4-1 score.
There was also plenty of rough stuff that took place as is customary between two historic rival squads, and Bruins forward Charlie Coyle earned himself a fine from the NHL Department of Player Safety for his cross check to former Bruin Tyler Bertuzzi in the 2nd period.
However, a Leafs forward has also run afoul of the DPS, as Jake McCabe has been fined the maximum amount for his cross check to Bruins captain and notorious pest Brad Marchand.
Here is the incident captured on video:
From the official press release:
"Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for cross-checking Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand during NHL Game No. 993 in Boston on Thursday, March 7, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 3:54 of the first period. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund."
