Jacob Trouba on the move again under one condition!

He’s just landed in Anaheim, but the defenseman could be on the move again.

Last week, the New York Rangers put an end to defenseman and captain Jacob Trouba’s time in the Big Apple, trading him to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and a 2025 fourth-round pick. With the move, Rangers general manager Chris Drury was able to dump Trouba’s $8 million cap hit without taking on much money in return and didn’t waste time to sign goalie Igor Shesterkin to a massive eight-year, $92 million contract extension.

Despite having just been traded, Trouba could be on the move again ahead of the March deadline, especially when Sportsnet’s Luke Fox pointed out that contenders could look to acquire the physical blue liner under one condition.

“Could Ducks GM Pat Verbeek eat some of Trouba’s salary and flip him to a contender? Perhaps send him back to the East, closer to his wife’s hospital residency, for the final year-and-a-half of the defenceman’s contract?

"Trouba is no longer an $8-million, top-pair asset, but he can play on my team for a $4-million hit.”

On Monday already, the Toronto Maple Leafs were linked to Trouba after Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun how the Canadian team could look into acquiring the defenseman for its postseason run.

Trouba carries another year of term at a cap hit of $8 million, but as Fox pointed out, the Ducks could always accept to retain half of his salary to get him on the move for an interesting return that would contribute to the rebuild in Anaheim.

It remains to be seen if Trouba will find himself packing boxes again ahead of the March trade deadline, but you have to believe that if he were to become available once more, many interested teams would pick up the phone in order to call the Ducks.
