Jacob Trouba gets brutally bullied ahead of Rangers’ camp
I’m so nervous for the upcoming season in New York…
Earlier this summer, reports emerged that the Rangers trying to move captain Jacob Trouba, causing a lot of drama in New York City. The deal was said to be sending him to the Red Wings in Detroit, however, the blue liner owns a 15-team no-trade clause and allegedly blocked the move. Trade chatter has died down since, though it was also said that agent Kurt Overhardt and Trouba were blocking trades from the Rangers, especially since the blue liner would prefer to stay put for his wife’s current hospital residency.
Insiders and pundits have different opinions on what could happen in New York City with Trouba’s situation, as the captain will be with the Rangers moving forward. I would hate to be in his boots, and even more so now that he has been trending on social media when a fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Like this tweet if you’re booing this man on opening night”.
Unfortunately, he was not the only one encouraging fans at Madison Square Garden to boo Trouba, though others came to his defense.
“If you boo the team captain on opening night, then you should seriously consider rooting for another team,” one fan wrote.
While others supported @gloverton and his wish for the Rangers’ fanbase to boo the captain:
It will be interesting to see how Trouba reacts to how he was treated by his own organization, and even some of its fans, and how the Rangers manage the relationship with their captain before the season opener.
Trouba has two years left on his current contract, making $8 million against the cap through the 2025-26 season. Last season he recorded 22 points in 69 games and added another seven points in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Let’s hope this gets all resolved before puck drop, and I also mean it for those angry fans who need to see hockey players as human beings too.
