In case you've missed today's big news, the New York Rangers have traded their now former captain, defenseman Jacob Trouba, to the Anaheim Ducks.

The chaos surrounding the situation on Friday was quite the spectacle to behold and there are already some clues about why things became just so chaotic. As many of you reading this will already know, the Rangers made it clear earlier today that they were bringing Trouba's time in New York to an end by any means necessary, and this latest bit of news may help explain why the Rangers appeared to be so frustrated with this entire situation.

According to a report from Columbus Blue Jackets insider Aaron Portzline, it sounds as though Trouba may have blocked a trade the Rangers attempted to make with the Blue Jackets prior to trading him to the Anaheim Ducks.

"Jacob Trouba refused to waive the no-trade clause in his contract to facilitate a trade to [the Columbus Blue Jackets]," wrote Portzline on Friday.

Comments made by Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell on Friday appear to lend credibility to this report from Portzline, with Waddell publicly stating that he was still interested in acquiring Trouba just prior to the trade to Anaheim being announced.

"Lots of talk about it, we have had talks with the Rangers, don't know where it goes," said Waddell on Friday. "We are taking a look at this deal with the Rangers."

There were widespread reports that Trouba was believed to have blocked a trade to the Detroit Red Wings earlier this summer, which would make this the second trade he blocked prior to being dealt to the Anaheim Ducks.

In fact the Red Wings were reportedly in the mix today as well, it is unclear if Trouba used his no-trade list to prevent them from making a trade with the Rangers this time around.

Trouba had a 15 team no trade list this season as part of his contract with the Rangers which gave him the right to block any trade to any of the 15 teams on his list. It is unclear at this time if he waived the clause to allow a trade to Anaheim or if the Ducks were simply not one of the 15 teams on Trouba's list.
