Jack Eichel opens up about trade from Buffalo to Vegas
So far, the trade has worked out tremendously for the former No. 2 overall pick.
Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel is living right in Sin City right now, only a year removed from his first career Stanley Cup championship that he thought may never be a possibility in his original NHL home.
As you remember, Eichel was taken by the Buffalo Sabres 2nd overall in the 2015 NHL Draft behind Connor McDavid, and while he enjoyed several productive years in western New York, his messy divorce from the franchise is well documented and certainly left a sour tastes in the mouths of fans who once cheered him.
And while it was a bit of a transition for him following the blockbuster trade that sent him to Vegas, his teammates proved crucial in helping make the move as seamless as possible.
"I think two years ago, I was probably a little bit naive, not knowing what to expect, I think you have teammates, and majority of the guys in our dressing room if not all of them had been through before with a lot of experience of winning," Eichel said.
"So just being able to lean on those guys during that run, and just coming into the organization being a part of it, it's I mean, it's such an easy place to play hockey, in the sense of the organization takes such good care of us. There's so many great guys in the locker room, so many veterans, leaders, amazing people. So, for me, it was a seamless transition," Eichel continued.
"I feel so fortunate to be a part of the of the Vegas Golden Knights organization," he continued. "Everyone from Bill Foley to the equipment managers to the trainers have made you feel really welcome from day one. So, I feel really fortunate about that."
In 63 games played last season, Eichel scored 31 goals with 37 assists, bringing his career total to 211 goals and 303 assists in 539 games split between Buffalo and Vegas.
