We’ve gotten the sense that Marc-Andre Fleury won’t be on the move unless he asks to be traded. The beloved goalie has a 10-team no-trade clause, but if he does request a trade, the Chicago Blackhawks won’t send him somewhere he doesn’t want to go, which has to be a relief for the veteran net minder.

Recent reports have indicated that Flower is not interested in joining the Washington Capitals, who have been in the mix to acquire him because he would not be comfortable coming to Washington in a trade because he is “still very much a Penguin.” The Edmonton Oilers were also rumoured to be in the mix, though it is believed that Flower does not consider them enough of a contender to accept a trade to Edmonton.

Finally on Tuesday, Chris Johnston revealed that Fleury might have made the final decision concerning a potential trade and might choose to stay in Chicago.

“It does sound like, at this point in time, Fleury is leaning towards finishing out the season in Chicago. He’s on the final year of his contract and he has a 10-team no trade list, so technically the Blackhawks could still move him. But there seems to be an understanding when the Vegas Golden Knights traded him to Chicago last summer that they would do right by him. There’s a little bit of time for him to change his mind but at this point with less than three weeks from the deadline, he doesn’t seem inclined to move.”

The Hawks could probably get a first-round pick in return for Flower replace the one they lost in the Seth Jones deal, however, we can understand why they prefer to respect Fleury’s wishes thanks to a promising pool of young prospects.

You’ve heard Johnston on Insider Trading: for now, less than 20 days ahead of the trade deadline, it looks like one of the most coveted players on the market will remain put.
