On Thursday, Montreal Canadiens forward Josh Anderson resumed skating with his teammates in a non-contact jersey. Anderson has yet to appear in a preseason contest due to an upper-body injury.

On Friday morning, Anderson was back on skates and TSN’s Darren Dreger revealed what caused the gritty forward to miss action and remain on the sideline with an upper-body ailment.

And a weird one that is.

Dreger pointed out that Anderson has missed time due to an infection caused by what is believed to be a spider bite to his finger.

While the insider does not say how significant the infection was, it is clear that it prevented Anderson from playing - maybe the swelling caused by the infected finger got in the way of him properly handling the stick and the puck.

It is however reassuring to know that Anderson is not dealing with a fracture and that he should be back in uniform soon, at least in time for the season’s opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 12.

Last season, Anderson put up 19 goals and 32 points through 69 games with the Canadiens.
