Igor Shesterkin fires right back at Matthew Tkachuk
The Russian netminder has the perfect response to the notorious Panthers trash talker!
The New York Rangers are receiving exceptional goaltending from Igor Shesterkin, who has firmly established himself as one of the top players at his position in the National Hockey League. The franchise has been truly fortunate to boast arguably the top goaltending talent from the United States with Mike Richter, from Sweden with Henrik Lundqvist, and now from Russia with Shesterkin.
Right now, Shesterkin and the Rangers enjoy a two games to one lead over the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final, as they seek to advance to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in a decade. But standing in their way are the likes of fellow Russian goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, along with super pest Matthew Tkachuk.
Not surprisingly, Tkachuk has had no shortage of things to say to Shesterkin throughout the series, as he typically does to the opposition in an effort to get them off their games. However, Shesterkin had the perfect response.
"I'm lucky because I don't speak English," Shesterkin said with a smile.
While the Russian native does speak broken English, he prefers to let his play on the ice do the talking for him. And right now, he and the Rangers are two wins away from advancing and claiming the title of Eastern Conference Champions.
Game 4 between the Rangers and Panthers will be tomorrow night from Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise.
