Hockey player found guilty for disgusting acts after meeting young woman on dating app

A Quebec hockey player has been found guilty of some truly disgusting and heinous act in his home province.

20 year old Zachary Tardiff has been convicted of sexual assault after raping a young woman that he met on the Quebec-based dating app 'Fruitz'.

Tardiff performed sexual intercourse on the victim while she was intoxicated and passed out. The two were reportedly drinking vodka with each other in January, 2023 when the victim retired to bed on her own due to drinking too much.

"When the complainant is intoxicated, it is up to the accused to take reasonable measures to ensure that she consents to each sexual activity [...]. His behaviour demonstrates complete nonchalance, if not total disregard for the complainant and the risk to her health," criticizes Luce Kennedy, judge at the Court of Quebec.

"The complainant states that late in the evening, she went to her room to go to bed because she was intoxicated. The accused entered, got into her bed and sexually touched several parts of her body," the court document states. Tardiff then penetrated the young woman without a condom and without receiving consent.

His defense was that because the young woman was moaning, it constituted as pleasure and consent on her part.

"The belief that the complainant's silence, passivity or ambiguous behaviour constitutes consent on her part is an error of law and does not constitute a defence," ruled Magistrate Luce Kennedy.

The 20 year old has yet to be sentenced, but it's obvious now that his hockey career is now over. A goaltender from Riviere du Loup was passed over in the 2024 and 2023 NHL Entry Drafts.
