Hints emerge that Nazem Kadri is on his way out of Calgary!

Another move coming from the Flames?

Chris Gosselin

It’s been made apparent that the Calgary Flames are entering a full-on rebuild phase, especially after a busy trade deadline and now goalie Jacob Markstrom traded to the New Jersey Devils and forward Andrew Mangiapane to the Washington Capitals.

The question now shifts to veteran forward Nazem Kadri and if he sees himself fitting in the near future in Calgary.

Nick Kypreos of the Toronto Star wondered about that, and now David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period is saying that while nothing is imminent, a trade involving Kadri could be made by the Flames this summer.

Kypreos however did point to Kadri’s no-movement clause and whether he would accept to waive it pretty much anywhere else to leave Calgary. I also wonder if Kadri could even demand to be traded, though his age, 33, and his hefty contract makes it somewhat difficult to move.

Darren Dreger of TSN reports that "teams are calling the Flames with interest in Nazem Kadri, however Calgary isn’t in a full tear down. They’re trying to reset their roster and Kadri is a big part of that."

Kadri carries a $7 million AAV through 2028-29 and is not the player he once was, let’s say when he won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche back in 2022, or even when he was a gritty forward with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

As of now, the Flames are exploring the idea of moving Kadri. Let’s just hope that if they do, they can land a good return to build a stronger future in Calgary following two disastrous seasons.
