Hall of Famer Mark Recchi unceremoniously fired from his job

The legendary forward turned coach is officially a free agent.

Trevor Connors

According to a report from Columbus Blue Jackets insider Aaron Portzline, the team has parted ways with assistant coach Mark Recchi.

Recchi has been with the team for less than a calendar year, having joined them last September during the fallout from the entire Mike Babcock firing debacle. The Hockey Hall of Famer had a year left on his pro-rated two-year agreement. Talk about a rough ride for a man who has such pedigree and professionalism.

From Portzline:

As Portzline reports, the Blue Jackets have no named a replacement for Recchi on new head coach Dean Evason's staff.

It remains to be seen what happens now with Recchi, but I suspect that he'll land back on his feet. He's been an assistant coach under Mike Sullivan (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Lindy Ruff (New Jersey Devils) since retiring back in 2011 and comes highly recommended. Stay tuned for the Wrecking Ball's next move.
