A great pick up for a young team in transition.

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they have signed a pair of depth players today, signing defenseman Nicolas Beaudin to a one-year, two-way contract and forward Lucas Condotta to a two-year, two-way contract.

NHL salary cap resource CapFriendly has reported that Beaudin’s contract has an NHL salary of $775K, an AHL salary of $90K, and a minimum guaranteed salary of $110K. Condotta’s deal though has not yet been reported.

Beaudin, a former 1st round pick (27th overall in 2018), seemed to find a home with the Canadiens organization after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks early last season. The 23 year old defenseman put up 25 points in 39 games with the AHL's Laval Rockets and has the possibility to work his way into the Canadiens' top six defensive core at training camp in September. He has played just 22 games at the NHL level, all with the Blackhawks, putting up two goals and six points.

Beaudin is a bit undersized, especially for a defenseman, at just 5'11" and 165 lbs, but he's a smooth skating blueliner who can help move the puck in transition. He's a quality bet from Habs GM Kent Hughes.

As for Condotta, the 24 year old forward played one game for the Habs last season, but managed 16 goals and 31 points in 72 games for the Rocket. He's an undrafted forward that the Canadiens signed out of University of Massachusettes-Lowell to play as a depth option for the team.
