Gustav Nyquist has officially been traded!
Veteran National Hockey League forward Gustav Nyquist is headed to a playoff contender.
There were rumblings that this trade was happening earlier today, but now it is officially a reality.
The Nashville Predators have revealed via an official announcement that veteran forward Gustav Nyquist has been traded to the Minnesota Wild. In exchange, the Predators will receive a second round draft pick in the 2026 National Hockey League Entry Draft, that pick is the Wild's own second round pick.
Additionally this is a retained salary transaction, with the Predators retaining the maximum allowable amount of 50% of Nyquist's salary in this deal.
Nyquist is currently in the second year of a 2 year deal that carries an average annual value and salary cap hit of $3.185 million per season, a fairly sizeable cap hit for a rental-type of acquisition ahead of the trade deadline. Combine that with the fact that Nyquist's offensive production has dropped off considerably this season, and the Predators needing to retain some of Nyquist's salary in order to get this deal done makes a lot of sense.
Nyquist is a very experienced NHL player with over 800 games under his belt but has struggled, as has the team around him, with just 9 goals and 12 assists for a total of 21 points over his 57 games with the Predators this season. That being said Nyquist is only one season removed from a much better campaign with the Predators, one that saw him record 23 goals and 52 assists for 75 points over 81 games last season and the Wild may be hoping that he will regain some of that form on a better team this season.
