Greer nails Podkolzin from behind and then everyone starts throwin' 'em

Last year's Stanley Cup rematch is gettin' feisty!

Trevor Connors

Last season's Stanley Cup Finalists are picking up where they left off in Game 8.

The Florida Panthers of course prevailed over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, and claimed their first ever Stanley Cup championship. This evening the two teams are renewing acquaintances and reminding us all what a great series they put on last summer.

Things really picked up mid-way through the 2nd period though after Panthers forward AJ Greer absolutely ran Oilers forward Vasili Podkolzin from behind with a thunderous hit. Podkolzin gets up and immediately drops his gloves and that's when all Hell breaks loose. Everyone grabs a partner and goes for a dance.

Check it out:

The irony, of course, is that neither Greer nor Podkolzin were on their current teams when they last met in the Stanley Cup Final. Maybe that just proves that this rivalry goes beyond personal grudges and is now ingrained in both teams' culture?
