Goaltender Ilya Sorokin signs monster deal worth $66 million.
The veteran goaltender has just signed a gigantic contract that will make him one of the highest paid goalies in the league.
The New York Islanders have pulled off the biggest signing of the day thus far.
According to multiple reports, the Islanders have signed Sorokin to a massive new 8 year contract, one worth a whopping $66 million making it by far the largest deal of the day thus far. That works out to an average annual value of $8.25 million for Sorokin, making him among the highest paid goaltenders in the league.
Sorokin has been a dominant force in the Islanders net since coming to the National Hockey League after a lengthy career in the Kontinental Hockey League, and last season was no exception. Over a heavy workload of 62 games Sorokin recorded a 2.33 goals against average and a .924 save percentage, numbers that have remained relatively consistent over his 4 seasons with the Islanders.
The Islanders will now have to hope that Sorokin can continue to perform at his elite level over the next 8 years, at which time he will be almost 36 years of age.
