On Thursday, the Columbus Blue Jackets placed goalie Spencer Martin on waivers, four months after claiming him from the Vancouver Canucks.
On Friday, Martin was moved to his third team of the season, getting claimed off the waiver wire by the Carolina Hurricanes.
Martin spent the past two years in Vancouver before the Canucks placed him on waivers in September and was claimed by Columbus then. A goalie was likely to happen in Columbus as Martin was caught in a triangle with Elvis Merzlikins and team favourite Daniil Tarasov.
In 13 appearances, the 28-year-old netminder has posted a 3-8-1 record with a 3.65 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage. His last start came back on Jan. 2 in a 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins.
Selected in the third round of the 2013 draft by the Colorado Avalanche, Martin has a career NHL record of 17-25-6 with a 3.63 GAA and a .886 save percentage.
The Blue Jackets host the New Jersey Devils on Friday night. They remain at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, 10 points back of the seventh-place Devils, and points out of a Wild Card spot.
Martin will offer some flexibility to the Hurricanes in their crease for the time being, though the new addition isn’t likely to be in the lineup later tonight against the Detroit Red Wings at PNC Arena in Raleigh.
