According to a report from Colorado Avalanche insider Adrian Dater, Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux has made it clear to GM Chuck Fletcher that his preference is to accept a trade to the Avalanche. Giroux reportedly has the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues as secondary options.

From Dater:

There's just one problem with Dater's report... Giroux himself says it's nonsense.

Giroux told the Philadelphia media today that he hasn't yet discussed his future with GM Chuck Fletcher yet and that he's 100% committed to being a Flyers.

That certainly doesn't sound like a trade is ready to be consummated, as was intimated by Dater.

In any case, the 34 year old Giroux has a full no-trade clause and can turn down any deal that he doesn't approve. He's in the final year of a contract that pays him $8.25 million and will become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason. With the Flyers well out of the playoff picture and with the team looking to make some rebuilding moves this offseason, it makes sense for them to ship out Giroux for some future assets.

And while Giroux may not be the 100 point player he was a few years ago, he still has a very respectable 15 goals and 36 points in 44 games with a very, very mediocre Flyers squad. All of this is to say that the old dog still has a few tricks up his sleeves and he could be a real asset to a Stanley Cup contender like the Avs, Wild or Blues.
