Over the weekend, President Donald Trump held a phone conference call with the commissioners of every major professional sports league and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. When briefing the call with media, he revealed that he believes all pro sports leagues will be able to resume “sooner rather than later.”
On Tuesday, Trump once again mentioned the importance of getting sports back and announced that NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA commissioners are now part of a new committee working get sports back after all events have been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have to get our sports back. I’m tired of watching baseball games that are 14 years old. I haven’t had much time to watch. I would say maybe I watch one batter and then I get back to work.”
Many states cannot imagine holding sporting events now that the death rate due to the coronavirus has gone up in the United States.
While we cannot wait for sports - especially the NHL - to return to action, smart decisions have to be made here for the safety of everyone.
We wonder if leagues should expect pressure from the White House to resume play?
