Free agent Sam Gagner signs new contract!

The veteran forward wants another shot! Full details below:

Chris Gosselin

Veteran Canadian forward Sam Gagner hasn’t played yet this season, but this has just changed on Friday morning, as Bruce Garrioch reports that the 35-year-old player has signed a professional tryout contract with the Belleville Senators.

The AHL farm club of the Ottawa Senators is adding some great leadership to the gang and Gagner gets a chance to lace them up again. He is hoping to crack the roster in Belleville.

Gagner was chosen sixth overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He has played 1047 NHL regular-season games for the Oilers, Arizona Coyotes , Philadelphia Flyers , Columbus Blue Jackets , Vancouver Canucks , Detroit Red Wings and Winnipeg Jets between 2007 and 2024, posting 529 points and 450 penalty minutes. He also played 11 playoff games for Philadelphia and Columbus, recording four assists.

He spent last season back in the Oilers organization, putting up 10 points in 28 NHL games and nine points in 15 AHL games with the Bakersfield Condors.

I’m really hoping this is a step towards an NHL return for Gagner.
