Flyers planning monster trade amidst chaotic circumstances…

This could be a way to shift the focus in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Flyers are making it known that they are willing to listen to trade offers when it comes to veteran centerman Scott Laughton. According to Darren Dreger of TSN, since the market for centers is thin in the league ahead of the March 8 trade deadline, general manager Daniel Briere is gauging interest for Laughton, though he is in no hurry to move him.

Seeing how the market for centermen is scarce, the Flyers could get a significant return in a Laughton deal.

When the Calgary Flames moved forward Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks in a blockbuster trade, he had been the top centre available on the market. Now unavailable, teams will look elsewhere for help down the middle.

Laughton has spent his entire 11-year career in Philadelphia after being selected by the Flyers 20th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He has recorded five goals and 20 points in 50 games so far this season. He has 87 goals and 219 points in 569 career NHL regular season games. He is signed is signed through 2025-26 at a cap hit of $3 million.

Briere might be trying to get chatter away from what has placed the Flyers in the spotlight in recent weeks: reports of goalie Carter Hart, who was harged with one count of sexual assault stemming from allegations that a woman was sexually assaulted by eight members of Canada’s world junior team after a fundraising gala in London in 2018.

This would be a way to swift the focus and get back to hockey business in a sense.

However, Briere may only be listening at the moment seeing that ahead of the All-Star Game, the Flyers remains in contention for a playoff spot, sitting third in the Metropolitan Division with a 25-19-6 record and 56 points.
