First-round imposing winger lands on waivers!
With teams looking for a boost up front, he might be claimed before tomorrow’s deadline.
On Tuesday, the Boston Bruins placed left winger Max Jones on waivers. The move comes just a day after free agent forward Tyler Johnson, who had been in Boston on a professional tryout agreement, was signed to a one-year contract.
Jones was selected in the first round, 24th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2014 NHL Draft. He signed a two-year deal for an average annual value of $1 million in Boston as a free agent this summer.
He’s played just four games for the Bruins this season and has yet to record a point, but he has over 260 NHL games of experience, collecting 31 goals and 62 points during his time with the Ducks. He’s been a healthy scratch for nine out of the Bruins’ 13 contests, including their back-to-back contests against the Philadelphia Flyers and Seattle Kraken over the weekend. For his four games, he’s averaged 11:13 per game and has no points and a -4 rating.
The 6-foot-3, 216-pound winger has always played to his size and can wear down opponents. He could definitely be looked at by other teams looking for size and a boost up front as many clubs have entered the 2024-25 season with a sluggish offensive start.
In order to make room for Johnson and with his stats, it’s no surprise that he hit the wire.
If Jones goes unclaimed, he will be assigned to the AHL in Providence as the Bruins keep looking for different lines combinations to get more fire power up front.
