Philip Broberg carried off the ice after injury on Saturday night.
The St. Louis Blues defenseman needed help getting off the ice after he appeared to twist his leg along the boards.
The St. Louis Blues may have just lost their big offseason acquisition after a seemingly harmless looking hit along the boards.
The Blues welcomed former head coach Craig Berube and his Toronto Maple Leafs to the Enterprise Center on Saturday night and unfortunately things turned bad for the Blues during the course of the game's second period.
Blues defenseman Philip Broberg, who was acquired by Blues general manager Doug Armstrong this summer via a crafty offer sheet, appeared to suffer a relatively serious injury when he was hit along the boards by Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner. Marner isn't the most physically imposing player and it did not appear to be the most physical hit, but it was enough to cause Broberg's leg to twist awkwardly.
Broberg would immediately collapse to the ice and appeared to be clutching at his right leg, in the area of his knee, as he lay on the ice for several long moments. The Blues training staff would come out to assist Broberg and after a few long moments Broberg would get back to his skates. Unfortunately he appeared to be unable to put any weight down on his right leg and had to be helped off the ice by his teammates.
Here is a look at how the injury occured:
The St. Louis Blues, to no one's surprise, have already confirmed that Broberg will not be returning to tonight's game.
Broberg has taken on an important role on the Blues' blue line in his short time with the team, and any type of long term injury would be a huge blow to a Blues team that is already dealing with injuries this season.
