A terrible tragedy has occurred during a charity hockey game this weekend.

17 year old hockey player Connor Kasin has lost his life after he suffered a medical episode during the course of a game that took place on Saturday night at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center. Connor reportedly lost consciousness and collapsed during one of the intermissions, although the cause of this sudden medical episode has not been disclosed.

The Massapequa High School has sent out a letter to the families impacted by this tragedy, confirming the passing of young Connor.

"It is heartbreaking to report that Connor did not survive," said the letter as per News 12 Long Island. "His passing is devastating to the Massapequa community, and we offer our deepest condolences to Connor’s family and friends."

The letter also provided some additional details about what measures were taken to try to save Connor's life, including a trip to the hospital by ambulance where he was sadly pronounced dead.

"It is with saddened hearts that we inform you of the passing of a 12th grade student. He experienced a sudden medical event during a varsity ice hockey game last night and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. It is heartbreaking to report that he did not survive."

According to News 12 Long Island, it sounds like concerned citizens who were in attendance also did everything they could to save Connor's life. Civilians in attendance reportedly performed CPR on Connor until the ambulance and paramedics arrived but unfortunately their efforts were not enough to save Connor's life.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that they are actively investigating this case.

Connor appeared to have a great head on his shoulders and a bright future ahead of him, here is how he described himself in his NCSA College Recruiting profile:

My name is Connor Kasin and I have been playing Ice Hockey since the age of four. I am an active, social, and encouraging teammate both on and off of the ice. I like to see my self as an active player in the way that I play both with and without the puck. Some things that would make me a good team candidate are my academic ability, leadership qualities, athletic performance, and my character. I can be seen as an overall defensive defenseman when it comes to my style of play. My goals are to get into a great college that provides me with both excellent coaching and education.

My most sincere condolences go out to the Kasin family and to all of those impacted by Connor's sudden and tragic passing this weekend.
